PT Gapura Liqua Solutions (GLS) is proud to announce a major milestone in building a more self-reliant Indonesia.

GLS completes desalination project for a national strategic initiative with our partner, PT Mitra Murni Perkasa (MMP). MMP is Indonesia’s first high-grade nickel matte smelter and is fully owned by domestic investors.

Supporting a National Strategic Vision

This initiative follows the President of Indonesia’s directive to process raw materials domestically before export. PT MMP pioneers this nickel downstreaming effort. Their smelter, located in the Kariangau Industrial Area near Balikpapan, will process raw materials into high-value products. This work drives Indonesia’s transformation from a raw material exporter into a competitive global player.

Advanced Technology for a Reliable Water Supply

MMP entrusted GLS to deliver a 6,210 CMD seawater desalination system, our largest capacity project to date. Advanced Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) technology is central to this success. We designed a sophisticated pre-treatment system that features ultrafiltration (UF) to protect core components and ensure the plant’s longevity. This initial stage is crucial for handling variable seawater quality and safeguarding the high-performance SWRO membrane technology.

We engineered the entire system for high desalination energy efficiency, ensuring the plant operates sustainably. This project is a tangible form of “water downstreaming,” a critical enabler for other industrial sectors like nickel.
